Communicating Across Cultures

Abstract - It is important to think about types of nonverbal communication common within cultures. People can draw many conclusions about others based on nonverbal communication clues.

Lesson Plan - Make participants aware of changes in Texas demographics, describe effective strategies of communication among differing cultures, build knowledge of different American cultures and help participants understand their own personal perceptions of culture by exploring effective ways of working with people of different cultures.

Creating a Vision and Establishing Goals

Abstract (Vision)- Having a vision is one of the most powerful components of leadership.

Abstract (Goals) - At the beginning of each new opportunity it is important to have a clear vision and written goal statements that will help make the vision a reality.

Lesson Plan - Participants should understand the definition of visioning as well as distinguishing between visioning and planning. Then write a personal vision statement as well as a personal goal statement.

Strategic Planning

Abstract - A major role of community leaders is to set priorities and guide others in identifying the most important needs in a community. This is typically done in a process called strategic planning.

Lesson Plan - Participants should be able to define strategic planning, understand differences between inside-out and outside-in strategic planning and learn common techniques for setting priorities: brainstorming, 100 votes, multivoting, and nominal group technique.
